Sending money to friends and loved ones is a tradition. When one has and the other does not especially within an immediate family, there is always the eagerness to help except if it is beyond one's control. So many Nigerians travel to the US to fend for themselves when they feel that the opportunities at home are not attractive. Their intention for leaving friends and families behind is to be able to send money to Nigeria from USA when they have found something legitimate to do.

Sending money from the US to help friends in Nigeria is possible because the dollar is more valuable than the naira. When exchanged in the black market, a dollar can be sold for about 365 naira. When multiplied by up to 100 dollars or more, the resulting amount becomes sufficient to take care of important issues at home.

Going to the US may not be palatable at first. However, as one arrives and gets a job, life becomes better because of an improved state of living which the person now has. Even if the person is not a professional such as a doctor or an engineer, life gets better when he successfully gets some freelance positions.

When they have successfully secured a job, they start sending funds to their loved ones in Nigeria. They tell the recipient what to do with it if it is not meant for them. At first, settling in the states comes with nostalgia to some but when they have fully acclimatized, they usually don't feel like going back home.

The reason they want to remain there is that they feel life has become more bearable. Even as freelancers doing some menial jobs, the little they earn can be used to cater for themselves and also solve the needs of some relations. It is no longer surprising how some families have successfully erected structures simply because someone sends them cash from the US.

Attending to basic needs such as feeding is another thing funds from a member of the family in the US helps to do. Even in the face of serious economic hardship, such families still have a reason to smile. They are less affected by the hardship going on in the country.

Some send the funds to pay school fees. Parents who are working abroad need to pay their children's school fees although they are unavoidably absent from home. Even when the deadline for meeting up with payment is very close, it is easy for the parent to meet up because of the several fast cash transfers available there. It is even possible for the money to be sent straight to the school's account. This is convenient for the student as he only has to request the payment receipt at his convenience.

Almost everyone in Nigeria has someone else who pays the bills from the US. A Nigerian living in poverty would be better off if he can make a connection with a friend abroad. Once they are able to find a genuine transfer agency, every other thing becomes easy. To do so, one has to be sure that the agency being used is recognized by the government.
